The Malwarebytes browser extension beta is a completely separate piece of technology, unrelated to Malwarebytes 3 (which is what users are being told to remove by this message in Chrome as far as I know Chrome is not telling users to remove the browser extension beta). Malwarebytes 3 does not install anything into Chrome, however because it uses Anti-Exploit technology that hooks into shielded applications' processes (including web browsers like Chrome), users are now being told to remove it based on claims that it is incompatible (this is due to past issues where Malwarebytes did in fact cause Chrome to crash at one time, however that issue has long since been fixed in the later versions of Malwarebytes) so there is no add-on/extension to replace. OK, so Step 1 should probably have read, "Pour yourself a stiff drink." Because, honestly, after fighting to figure this all out, I could really use one. Not that any of Google's "stuff" runs perfectly.) Step 1 is (obviously) to install the Chrome Extension:Ĭhrome-extension://ihcjicgdanjaechkgeegckofjjedodee/settings/settings.html ( This IS a beta-version, so don't expect it to run perfectly at first. What Chrome wants you to do is get rid of the now-defunked apps and install the appropriate Extensions:īy installing the Chrome extension for Malwarebytes, the two will recognize each other as friends and "play nicely together again." They are pushing all the apps out and migrating EVERYTHING to BROWSER EXTENSIONS. Google has discontinued (or is in the process of discontinuing) support for ALL their browser apps.
